That he still bore scars is what I’ve always thought so beautiful. It’s what’s intrigued me more than almost anything else all these years about the story so many celebrate at Easter all over the world, believers, half-believers, unbelievers too. The story of resurrection, the idea of it, the hope of it.
Today much of the Church celebrates the Ascension of Jesus. Appearing among the disciples and others after the resurrection, Jesus ascended to the right hand of the Father in heaven.
Most are unaware how seditious Christianity was in the earliest centuries of the Church, unaware how threatening Christianity was to the world of late antiquity.
