The Holy Family and Families Like Ours

I hope you’re still saying Merry Christmas! At least a few more days!

In these beautiful bright days of Christmastide, I hope the season’s blessing don’t fade away too quickly. Do what you can to keep Christmas going, this joy so wonderful and bright!

This Sunday we celebrate the Holy Family, that beautiful little family of St. Joseph, the Blessed Mother, and the Christ Child. Today the Church simply wants us to meditate on this wonderful miracle: that our salvation was nurtured within the comfort of a family.

Which means for us at least two things. First, we should today give thanks for our families, for all the good that’s come from them. Think today of the gift of your own family and thank God for it. Second, today we should ask for healing in our families. Not every family is the holy family; sometimes families are broken and hurt. The Feast of the Holy Family is not for perfect families, but for families like ours, especially for those families in need of grace. Pray to the Blessed Mother, to St. Joseph, to Christ! Pray for your broken family that it may be made more holy by Christ’s healing. Don’t lose hope! Love and grace will get you through! Trust to it!
